As a palliative care matron the hardest dying people to look after are the ones that try and protect their families and vice versa – ‘don’t tell them they’re dying’. I’ve worked in the hospice for 15 years and seen so many people die – it’s a privilege to be with a person when they die. There is nothing to fear for those left behind, knowing what matters for their loved ones really does make all the difference.
