My Mum died aged eighty-six after several years of ill health. She had dementia so I felt my ‘real’ mum had died five years earlier. I was determined to read an appropriate piece I had written about this at the crematorium. I did so, and was in floods of tears throughout, but so many of those there spoke to me and contacted me afterwards to acknowledge the impact and truth of what I said.
