My dad died in January this year. Today is his birthday. How strange that the only date this play is on in Bristol should be today.

My dad had cancer for nine years before he died. He came a breath away from death five years ago and spent three months in intensive care. He miraculously lived through this but then became so ill again last year. Even when his death became so obvious, a week before it happened, he would still wake up every morning saying he was getting better. He never spoke the word death. He never talked of it, made no will, no letter, no funeral wishes. Nine years of dying and he was never able to accept it or talk of it.

I hope that the whole world can see your play so that no more daughters wait in vain for that freedom to speak of death.
