My mum died in America while I was here in the UK. One of my sisters held a phone to her ear so I could speak to her – she died about an hour later. I asked my other sister if they could keep her so that I could see her and say goodbye. The funeral director provided a body bad and my sisters cranked up the air conditioning – it was August. But the air-con packed up – so my sisters went out and got bags of ice! Mum died on Friday and I think it was late on Sunday before I got there. At the airport I had bought a feathered boa for her. It exactly matched her nightgown. She would have loved being “on ice”!
